New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested an alleged vehicle thief within 48 hours of a scooter theft in East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area. The police recovered the stolen Honda Activa and identified the accused as 25-year-old Nitin, a resident of West Jawahar Park, Laxmi Nagar. Investigations have also linked him to a separate mobile phone snatching case.

100 CCTV Cameras Help Crack the Case

According to East District DCP Rajeev Kumar Rawal, police received a PCR call on November 1 reporting the theft of a Honda Activa from Laxmi Nagar. Following the complaint, an FIR (No. 392/2026) was registered under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was initiated.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, a special team was constituted under the supervision of the Station House Officer. Investigators examined footage from nearly 100 CCTV cameras installed in and around the area. Technical analysis and secret intelligence eventually helped police identify Nitin.

Acting on the leads, the police raided his residence and arrested him. The stolen Honda Activa was also recovered.

How Was the Accused Linked to Another Crime?

During interrogation, Nitin allegedly admitted his involvement in a mobile phone snatching incident reported on October 26. An FIR (No. 385/2026) had already been registered in connection with that case.

Police are now attempting to recover the snatched mobile phone and the scooter allegedly used in the incident.

Accused Has a Record in 25 Criminal Cases

According to police records, Nitin studied up to Class 8 and works as a labourer. He is also listed as a bad character of Laxmi Nagar Police Station. His criminal record includes involvement in 25 cases registered in Delhi involving theft, burglary, robbery and offences under the Arms Act.

The arrest and recovery were carried out by a team comprising ASI Rajeev Kumar, Head Constables Sachin Tyagi and Amit, and Constable Devi Singh. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Station House Officer.
