New Delhi: On April 22, 2026, the 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer was murdered in her home in Amar Colony area of southeast Delhi. Father Dinesh Gupta, a 1997 batch Indian Revenue Service officer, returned home to find his daughter writhing in a puddle of blood. Seeing this scene, even a stone-hearted person would have been shaken. The victim was an engineering graduate and was preparing for the UPSC Civil Services exam—a dream that was extinguished forever.

Who is the accused and when was he arrested?

Police suspect that this incident was carried out by 19-year-old former domestic servant Rahul Meena, who was removed from the job about one and a half months ago. Delhi Police arrested Rahul Meena from an OYO hotel in Dwarka on Wednesday. Several teams were sent simultaneously to Delhi and other cities to nab him.

How did the accused know so much about the house?

Police believe that Rahul Meena had complete knowledge of the daily routine and inside of the house. He probably broke into the house using a spare key. There were no signs of forced entry. This fact is even more chilling—the person who gave shelter in the house committed this monstrosity.

What happened that morning? Where were the parents?

When this incident happened that morning, the girl was alone in the house. Her parents had gone for a morning walk. The accused was seen on footage from a nearby CCTV camera around 6 am. He waited outside and as the parents left the house, he slipped inside.

What did Rahul Meena do before coming to Delhi?

Police investigation revealed that a day before the incident, Rahul had molested a woman in his hometown Alwar. To escape from that matter, he ran away to Delhi. To escape the attention of the police, he sold his mobile phone for just Rs 10,000 and hired a car to reach Delhi for around Rs 6,000. That means it was a well-planned and cold-blooded incident.

How did the accused try to destroy the evidence after the murder?

Police believe the victim was strangled to death with a mobile phone charging cable, which was also recovered from the crime scene. There were blood stains in the house, so the accused changed his blood-stained clothes and tried to run away wearing other clothes kept in the house so that he could not be identified.

What happened while trying to break the locker?

According to police sources, the intentions of the accused were not limited to just this. He tried to use the victim's hand to open the biometric locker installed in the house but failed. Then he forcefully broke the locker and took out cash and jewelery from it and put it in a bag. After snatching an innocent life, he also had to loot the household items.

What questions does it raise?

Police and forensic team have sealed the spot and investigation is being done from every angle. The exact cause of sexual assault and death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem and forensic reports.

Such a barbaric incident in broad daylight, in the house of an IRS officer, in a posh area of Delhi – this is not just news of a crime. It asks questions of every household where daughters live alone and where old servants are trusted. A daughter who dreamed of UPSC closed her eyes—and with her, the world of an entire family.
