New Delhi: A 17-year-old student has died after being brutally beaten in the Trilokpuri area of Delhi. The incident occurred in the Mayur Vihar police station area, where a group attack allegedly claimed the life of a promising student.
The deceased has been identified as Mohit, a Class 11 student. The incident led to panic in the area. Police have registered a murder case. All the accused are said to be minors. Police have taken all six teenagers into custody.
What are the details of the incident?
The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of January 5. Mohit was with his friends in the Trilokpuri area when an ongoing dispute escalated. It is reported that Mohit had been previously feuding with a local teenager. During the conversation, an argument broke out, which quickly escalated into a violent altercation, which later took a fatal turn.
According to eyewitnesses, Mohit was surrounded by several teenagers. They all attacked him with punches and kicks. Even when Mohit fell to the ground, the attackers did not let him go.
They continued to beat him. The attack was so brutal that Mohit fell unconscious on the spot. Fear gripped the people present. No one could have predicted that the altercation would result in death.
Following the attack, Mohit was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in an unconscious state. Doctors conducted a preliminary examination there. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to GTB Hospital. Doctors determined that Mohit was in no condition to give a statement. He had severe injuries to his head and body. Treatment was initiated under a medico-legal procedure. Doctors struggled throughout the night to save him.
At around 1:15 a.m. on January 6, 2026, the police received information from GTB Hospital that Mohit had died during treatment. Upon receiving the news of the student's death, the family was devastated. Tension prevailed in the area. Police immediately initiated legal action. A murder case was subsequently registered at the Mayur Vihar police station. The case now involved serious sections.
During the incident, an eyewitness came forward to rescue Mohit. However, it is alleged that the attackers also attacked him. This clearly demonstrates that the accused did not expect any resistance. The attack was completely planned and coordinated. People later informed the police. By then, the accused had fled the scene. The injured Mohit's condition had become extremely critical.
The police have registered FIR No. 09/26 in this case. The case has been registered under sections 103(1), 115(2), 126(2), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (CrPC). These sections relate to murder and gang assault. Since all the accused are minors, they are being treated as CCL (Child in Conflict with Law). The investigation is being conducted strictly according to the legal process.
Following the incident, the Crime Team and FSL inspected the scene. Necessary evidence was collected from the scene. People in the vicinity were questioned. During the investigation, the police arrested all six minor accused. The interrogation has revealed several important details. However, the police are not officially disclosing much at this time. The investigation is progressing steadily.
A postmortem is currently being conducted on Mohit's body. The doctors' final opinion regarding the exact cause of death is awaited. Following the postmortem report, additional charges may be added to the case. The police say that no one will be spared. This case also raises serious questions about the increasing violence among minors. Further investigation is underway.
