New Delhi: New Year celebrations are round the corner in Delhi, and to ensure that no major crime or incident takes place during this crowded time, the police have started a strict nightlong crackdown. Continuous raids, checks, and blockades were conducted in many areas of the capital. In this action, a large number of people were arrested, weapons were confiscated, and stolen goods were recovered.

What is the operation after all?

This campaign has been named Operation Trauma 3.0. It was run by the South-East Delhi Police. The aim was to keep an eye on those areas where there is a possibility of an increase in crime during festivals and crowds. The police also targeted those people who had been caught in several cases before and who were suspected of repeating the crime.

How many people were caught?

According to the police, so far around 285 accused have been arrested in this action. These also include cases related to weapons, liquor, drugs, and betting. Apart from this, 504 people were taken into preventive custody so that there is no disturbance during the festivals.

Along with this, 116 notorious criminals who already have a history in the police records were also caught. 10 people involved in theft and vehicle robbery, and 5 people who stole bikes were also arrested.

What was recovered?

During the operation, police seized a lot of material. These include:

  • 21 desi pistols
  • 20 live cartridges
  • 27 knife
  • Consignment of drugs and illicit liquor

Apart from this, 310 mobile phones were also found, which were snatched during snatching, theft, or robbery. This amount also points towards smuggling and illegal business taking place before the festival.

How much was the impact on vehicle theft gangs?

Police have seized 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler that were stolen or found in suspicious condition. These vehicles were kept in preparation to be used in crime or to be sold further. A total of 1,306 people were stopped, interrogated, or verified to prevent any criminal activity ahead of the New Year.

Senior officials say that this campaign is being run for prevention. There is a possibility of an increase in crime during the New Year, so the police are making preparations in advance. He says that these steps are also to give a message to the people that there will be no relaxation in security.
