Massive Fire Erupts Near Maulana Azad Medical College, 24 Fire Tenders Rush to Spot

New Delhi: There was chaos due to a massive fire in Valmiki Basti located at Takiya Kale Khan in the capital Delhi late on Monday night. The fire spread so rapidly in the slum located behind Maulana Azad Medical College that within no time many temporary structures got engulfed by it. As soon as information about the incident was received, fire department teams reached the spot and relief and rescue operations were started.

When was the information received?

According to Delhi Fire Service, information about the fire was received at around 11:22 pm. Initially seven to eight fire tenders were sent to the spot, but considering the seriousness of the fire, additional tenders were also deployed. Within a short time the number of fire vehicles was increased to 24.

How was the fire brought under control?

Divisional Officer of Delhi Fire Service Mukesh Verma said that the fire personnel have completely controlled the fire with continuous efforts. He said that at present no casualties have been reported. However, the exact loss is still being assessed.

Did wooden and temporary structures increase the difficulty?

Preliminary investigation has revealed that apart from slums, some warehouses were also present in the affected area, where plywood and other inflammable materials were kept. Due to the large amount of wood and temporary construction material, the fire spread quickly and was a challenge to extinguish.

Have there any casualties been reported?

According to officials, the fire has been completely brought under control and no casualty has been confirmed at present. The fire department and local administration are continuously monitoring the situation. Investigation has been started to find out the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, on Monday, an incident of fire was also reported in a coaching center located in Aliganj area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Many people were injured in the accident. According to eyewitnesses, after the fire, there was a stampede in the building and many people tried to get out through windows and other routes. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
