New Delhi: Diwali celebrations in East Delhi will be subject to strict restrictions on the sale and use of green firecrackers, with authorities seeking to limit pollution and protect public health. The district administration has issued detailed guidelines, urging residents to follow the Supreme Court’s directions and celebrate the festival responsibly.

District Magistrate (East) Karanjeet P. Vadodaria has appealed to the public to comply with the prescribed rules.

When Will Firecrackers Be Allowed?

According to the administration, green firecrackers will be permitted only on November 7 and 8. The approved time slots are from 6 am to 7 am and 8 pm to 10 pm on both days. Firecracker use outside these hours will remain prohibited.

The administration has also banned fireworks within a 300-metre radius of hospitals, nursing homes, health centres, old-age homes, educational institutions and notified silent zones.

Only Certified Green Crackers Permitted

The sale of firecrackers will be restricted to green crackers certified by the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI). Products must have valid QR codes on their packaging and be sold in sealed packs.

Traditional firecrackers, series or chain crackers, crackers containing barium and other uncertified fireworks will not be allowed. Online sales and sales from unauthorised locations are also prohibited.

Joint Teams to Monitor Compliance

The district administration and Delhi Police will deploy joint teams to conduct patrols and monitor compliance. Authorities have warned that violations may lead to the seizure of firecrackers and legal action against those responsible.

The District Magistrate has urged residents to celebrate Diwali in a way that does not add to pollution or noise, stressing that the festival should be marked by happiness and consideration for others.
