New Delhi: The Delhi government has approved the formation of the ‘Go-Delhi Foundation’, committing an initial ₹50 crore to promote innovation, support emerging businesses and help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into commercially viable ventures.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The initiative aims to create new opportunities for young people, students, researchers and entrepreneurs by providing support to startups at different stages of development.

Delhi has around 21,000 startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), making the proposed foundation a potential platform for strengthening the capital’s startup ecosystem.

How Will the Foundation Help Startups?

The foundation will support entrepreneurs with product development, prototype creation, access to testing laboratories, technical guidance, training and connections with investors.

These facilities are intended to help innovators transform early-stage ideas into practical products and prepare them for the market. The initiative could also help startups overcome technical and financial challenges during their initial stages.

Can Startups Help Solve Government Challenges?

The proposed foundation will also enable government departments to present their operational challenges to innovators and entrepreneurs.

Startups will be encouraged to develop solutions to these problems, which can then undergo pilot testing. Successful technologies may subsequently be considered for adoption, creating opportunities for innovative businesses while helping departments address practical challenges.

Foundation to Operate as a Non-Profit Organisation

The Go-Delhi Foundation will be established as a non-profit organisation under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, and will operate under the Delhi government's Industries Department.

The government expects the initiative to strengthen entrepreneurship, attract investment and create new employment opportunities across the capital.

By connecting innovators, research institutions, businesses and government departments, the foundation aims to create a more supportive environment for startups to develop and expand.
