Delhi Traffic Police’s Road Safety ‘Street Play’ Teaches 300 Students Life-Saving Rules (TIN)
New Delhi: The thrill of speed on the road often takes a toll on life, but if traffic rules are made a habit, many accidents can be avoided. With this message, the Northern Range team of Delhi Traffic Police showed such an awareness 'film' in which instead of actors, there was a message and the hero of the story was road safety.
Northern Range Team of Delhi Traffic Police organized a street play on road safety awareness at Mother Khajani School, Bakhtawarpur under Narela Traffic Circle on 5th October. The program was organized in collaboration with Road Safety Cell, Delhi Traffic Police under the direction and supervision of DCP Traffic Northern Range Dr. Sachin Kumar Singhal.
Through street drama, around 300 students of the school were made aware about the importance of traffic rules and responsible behavior on the road. Through entertainment and dialogue, it was explained to the students that even small carelessness on the road can sometimes cost them the biggest price of life. During the play, children were given the message to always wear a helmet while riding a two-wheeler, wear seat belt while traveling in a car, not to use mobile phone while driving and not to drive under the influence of alcohol. Along with this, they were also motivated to follow the traffic signals, drive in their lane and use zebra crossing while crossing the road.
The street play was presented in such a way that the students could easily understand the common mistakes committed on the road and their serious consequences. The artists told through acting and dialogues that traffic rules are not just to avoid challan, but they are made to save lives. It was specifically explained to the students that even a glance at a mobile phone while driving can lead to an accident. Similarly, instead of considering helmet and seat belt as a mere formality, they should be adopted as life-saving safety equipment.
The objective of the program was to develop a sense of responsibility towards road safety in children since childhood. The traffic police team gave the message to the students that safe behavior on the road is not only the responsibility of the driver but is the shared responsibility of every citizen. The school administration appreciated this initiative of Delhi Traffic Police and said that such programs play an important role in effectively conveying the message of road safety to children.
The Northern Range Traffic Team gave a clear message that the road safety campaign is not limited to just giving rules. It is equally important to bring about behavioral change in people through awareness, education and community participation. Northern Range of Delhi Traffic Police is continuously running awareness programs to inculcate the culture of road safety in the coming generation. Because if responsible behavior is adopted on the road today, the lamp of some family will be saved from being extinguished tomorrow.
