New Delhi: Delhi is getting its voter list cleaned up. A Special Intensive Revision campaign kicks off on Tuesday, June 30. Around 13,000 Booth Level Officers will fan out across the city and go door to door to verify voter details. Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar announced the drive and said the exercise will continue until July 29.
Delhi currently has 1.45 crore registered voters. Out of these, 77.11 lakh are male and 67.98 lakh are female. The third gender category has 1,024 voters. Differently abled voters number are 76,155. There are 3,29,130 voters in the 18 to 19 age group. At the other end of the spectrum, 192 voters are above 100 years of age. The city has seven Lok Sabha constituencies and 70 assembly segments with a total of 13,033 polling stations.
When a BLO visits your home, they will hand over two copies of an enumeration form. Voters need to fill in their details based on the last SIR conducted in 2002. One filled copy goes back to the BLO. The other stays with the voter. Those who prefer not to wait for the BLO can fill in the details online as well. If a house is locked on the first visit, the BLO will return up to three times.
The Special Intensive Revision is a house-to-house verification program. Its main purpose is to keep the voter list accurate and up to date. It ensures all eligible citizens aged 18 and above are included. It also removes names of voters who have died, shifted, gone missing or appear more than once on the list. Several other states have recently completed this exercise and a significant number of names were removed from voter rolls for various reasons.
The door-to-door survey wraps up on July 29. A draft voter list will be published on August 5. Between August 5 and September 4 voters can file complaints and request corrections. Hearings on those complaints will run from August 5 to October 3. The final voter list will be published on October 7.
