Delhi Building Collapse Claims 6 Lives, Administration Orders Nearby Building Evacuation

New Delhi: The accident that took place in Satya Niketan of South Delhi has shaken the entire area. About a five-storey building collapsed. NDRF, fire brigade and police teams kept removing debris throughout the night. So far 6 people have died, 11 people have been rescued alive. Another person was pulled out from the debris, but doctors declared him dead in the hospital. After the accident, MCD has also come into action.

What action did MCD take?

MCD has declared another building right near the accident site as dangerous. A notice to vacate that building has been pasted. The corporation says that the building is in a dilapidated condition and can collapse any time, hence everyone should evacuate immediately.

How many people died in the accident?

Till now, 6 deaths are confirmed. 11 people have been found injured, many of whom are DU students. The rescue team spent the whole night cutting the debris with torches and cutters and rescued people. There is a possibility that one or two people may still be trapped, so the search is going on.

FIR filed against the building owner?

Police have registered a case at South Campus police station. Many people including building owner Harisham have been made accused. The police are investigating whether illegal floors were made in the building, whether there was adulteration in the cement and gravel or not.

Under which sections was the case registered?

Police have imposed three sections of the BNS in this case – 105, 290 and 125 (a). These sections relate to culpable homicide, negligence in construction and endangering people's lives. This means that the police are considering it not just as an accident but as a death due to negligence.

What will happen to illegal buildings?

After this accident, MCD has increased its strictness. Mayor Parvesh Wahi has said that action will be taken against wherever illegal buildings with more than four floors are built in Delhi. Not only the owner, but the officer who allowed it to be built will also be punished.

What is happening at the spot now?

Currently, the work of removing the debris is in the final stages. The dog squad is also being checked to see if anyone else is trapped inside. Also, survey of all the old buildings nearby is being done. People are scared, many PG owners have left with their belongings.
