Sawan Shivratri 2026: Delhi-NCR Traffic To Be Hit By Kanwar Yatra, Check Routes And Advisories

New Delhi: Since Sawan Shivratri takes place on August 11, the Kanwar Yatra has entered its peak stage and the traffic will remain slow in many areas of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. The traffic advisory issued by the police in Delhi, Noida and Faridabad has been seen as a useful advisory for commuters on the Delhi-NCR road.

Which roads will be closed?

On the Sawan Shivratri, roads from Delhi to Noida, Noida to Ghaziabad, Ghaziabad to Delhi and Delhi to Faridabad will be the most affected.

Multiple diversion and restrictions of lanes congestion has already been registered in long stretches used by Kanwariya pilgrims.

Traffic police has urged people to make their travel plans ahead of time, refrain from unnecessary travel during busy periods and avoid main roads if possible.

Which way will be affected the most?

The authorities' advisories and traffic plans indicate that the following corridors will continue to be affected on August 11:

Kalindi Kunj: Due to the enhanced traffic movement of Kanwar pilgrims and traffic, the Kalindi Kunj route between South Delhi and Noida will likely experience significant congestion. Delays are likely on expressway in between Sarita Vihar, Jasola, Kalindi Kunj and Noida sectors close to the border.

DND Flyway: The Noida-Delhi flyway will also see traffic congestion, particularly during morning and evening rush hours as office vehicles add to the diverted traffic from other border crossings.

Ashram-Mathura Road corridor: Due to traffic restrictions during Kanwar Yatra, certain areas of the Ashram Chowk, Mathura Road and Badarpur stretch may be affected which may impact vehicles from Central Delhi to South Delhi and Faridabad.

Noida-Greater Noida: Roads between Noida, Greater Noida and the Delhi border may experience traffic congestion as police have said alternate roads may be used by vehicles to increase traffic on them.

Faridabad-Delhi routes: Stretches, which connect to Badarpur Border and Mathura Road, around key entry points in Faridabad-South Delhi will be expected to be sensitive zones for congestion during the Shivratri rush.

What did the Traffic Police say?

Traffic police have provided some simple tips:

• If using public transportation to offices, airports or railway stations, go early.
• Use Metro as much as possible, especially between Delhi and Noida.
• Check out traffic information from Delhi Traffic Police, Noida Traffic Police, and Faridabad Police before beginning your travel.
• Use border roads minimally for shorter trips where you have an option of a road available within the city itself.

What is Sawan Shivratri?

Sawan Shivratri is one of the most important days during the holy month of Shravan, and thousands of Kanwariyas will visit Shiva temples in Delhi-NCR to conduct Jalabhishek.

Since the yatra continues throughout the night and early hours of Shivratri, traffic may occur during abnormal hours of operation, not just during regular business hours.
