New Delhi: In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening law and order, addressing public grievances and connecting different sections of society with the police, the South-East District Police organised a programme honouring senior citizens and outlined measures to tackle local issues.
The initiative highlighted the contributions of senior citizens while also focusing on removing encroachments, enforcing traffic regulations and creating employment opportunities for young people.
The programme was attended by MP Rambir Singh Bidhuri, the District Magistrate of South-East Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vineet Kumar and Arun Popli, representing the Okhla Industrial Area Association.
Senior citizens who had achieved distinction in various fields were honoured in the presence of their family members. The event provided an opportunity to recognise their lifelong contributions and discuss local concerns.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vineet Kumar said drives would be conducted to remove encroachments from public spaces to ensure convenience and unobstructed movement for residents.
The initiative aims to address problems caused by unauthorised occupation of roads and other public areas, which often disrupt traffic and inconvenience pedestrians.
The police also signalled a strict approach towards traffic violations, particularly driving on the wrong side of the road.
Action will be taken against offenders in accordance with traffic regulations to reduce the risk of road accidents and improve public safety.
Another key focus of the programme was the rehabilitation and skill development of adolescents and young people.
DCP Vineet Kumar proposed providing practical skills training to young people and connecting them with employment opportunities in the industrial sector.
The initiative will seek support from traders and industrial organisations in Okhla to help young people develop professional skills, pursue productive careers and become part of the social mainstream.
The DCP also emphasised the need for regular interaction with senior citizens, prompt resolution of their complaints and greater awareness of cyber fraud.
Special attention was given to strengthening coordination between the police, market associations and local residents through active public participation.
The South-East District Police reiterated that safer public spaces, disciplined traffic management and stronger community participation remain key priorities in its efforts to improve public safety and policing.
