New Delhi: The Cyber Police of Northeast Delhi have arrested two men in connection with an alleged investment fraud worth ₹15.83 lakh. Investigators suspect the accused were involved in a network that arranged bank accounts for cybercriminals. Two mobile phones were seized during the operation, and police reportedly found chats linked to the arrangement of bank accounts for fraudulent activities.
The investigation is continuing to identify other people allegedly involved in the network and trace the complete movement of the defrauded money.
According to Northeast District DCP Rahul Alwal, a case was registered on October 5, 2026, at the Cyber Police Station of Northeast Delhi following a complaint by Nikhil Dedha. The e-FIR, numbered 257/26, was registered under Sections 318(4), 319 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The complainant alleged that he was duped of ₹15.83 lakh after being promised attractive returns through WhatsApp investment groups operating under the names ‘Prosper Club’ and ‘VVIP Group’. Police are investigating the alleged fraud and the role of those suspected of facilitating the transactions.
During the investigation, police found that ₹9.60 lakh of the allegedly defrauded amount had been transferred to a bank account held in the name of Krishna Enterprises. The account was linked to 23-year-old Himanshu Kumar.
During questioning, investigators allegedly found that Himanshu had handed over his bank documents and the associated SIM card to his relative, 30-year-old Ankit Kumar, in exchange for ₹25,000.
Police allege that Ankit collected bank accounts for use in cyber fraud and supplied them to other associates. Based on technical evidence and questioning, investigators arrested Ankit as well.
Both accused are residents of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. According to police records, neither had a previous criminal history.
The arrests followed an investigation based on technical evidence gathered by the Northeast District Cyber Police team. The mobile phones seized from the accused are being examined for further leads.
Investigators are now working to establish the complete financial trail, identify other suspected members of the network and determine the extent of their alleged involvement in cyber fraud.
