Speeding Thar kills grandfather, 2 children in Gurugram; driver arrested

According to police, the deceased identified as, Zayed Khan and Ishant, aged eight and 10, died on the spot, while their maternal grandfather, Subhash, who is 60-year-old, succumbed in a hospital.

Gurugram: A speeding Thar hit two boys and their grandfather in Haryana's Gurugram killing all three on the spot on late Friday night, police said on Saturday. The police after registering an FIR have arrested the accused and taken the car into custody.

Where did the incident happen?

The tragic accident occurred near Lokra village in the Pataudi police station area on Friday night. A man and his two grandchildren, who were walking, were struck by a speeding Thar and the impact of the collision was so severe that all three died on the spot.

According to police, the deceased identified as, Zayed Khan and Ishant, aged eight and 10, died on the spot, while their maternal grandfather, Subhash, who is 60-year-old, succumbed in a hospital.

The police said that Subhash, who hailed from Milkpur village in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, had come to Lokra Road near Khod village to visit his brothers with his two grandsons.

How did the accident occur?

According to police, the accident which occurred near the Lokra village was captured on CCTV. 

In the video, Subhash can be seen returning home with the two boys, when a Mahindra Thar allegedly struck them from behind.

The driver of the Thar fled after the accident and left his vehicle on spot.

Did the police arrest the driver?

The accused, who was identified as  Deepanshu, 25, a resident of Gurugram’s Goriyawas village, was arrested and questioned.

“We have arrested the accused driver and are questioning him. His medical examination will be conducted soon to clarify whether he had consumed alcohol or not, because the Thar vehicle was at a high speed when the accident happened”, Pataudi SHO Brahm Prakash said.
