Chennai: After a long suspense in Tamil Nadu politics, a new government is finally going to be formed on Sunday. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C Joseph Vijay will take oath as chief minister at 10 am. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, where many big political leaders are likely to arrive.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has formally invited Vijay to form the government. Vijay had staked claim to form the government after submitting the letter of support of majority in the assembly.
According to party sources, after becoming the chief minister, he can handle important departments like Vijay Griha, Police and General Administration himself. It is believed that law and order and administration will be given priority in the initial decisions of the government.
According to the information, along with Vijay, nine ministers can also take oath in the first phase. Almost a consensus has been reached within the party regarding possible ministers and departments.
Senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan may get the responsibility of Public Works Department i.e. PWD. Whereas N. There is talk of handing over the city administration department to Anand. CTR Nirmal Kumar can handle the electricity department.
According to sources, Aadhav Arjun may be given the sports development department. Raj Mohan is likely to get Adi Dravid Welfare Department. VNS Mustafa can be given the responsibility of Minority Welfare Ministry.
Congress, which is part of the TVK alliance, is also likely to get representation in the cabinet. Sources say that Congress leaders Rajesh Kumar and Vishwanathan can be made ministers. Apart from this, there is talk of P. Venkataramanan getting the School Education Department and Arun Raj getting the Commercial Tax and Registration Department.
TVK had emerged as the largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, but remained a few seats short of a sole majority. After this, Congress, CPI, CPI-M, VCK and IUML announced their support to Vijay. With these allies, the number of TVK alliance MLAs reached 120, paving the way for government formation.
