Bengaluru: Sunday morning was very heavy for Karnataka. When people had not even woken up properly, news came that state government minister D. Sudhakar was no more. At the age of 66, he said goodbye to this world. For those who knew him closely, this news was no less than a shock because everyone expected that he would recover and return.

In which hospital was the treatment going on?

D. Sudhakar has been suffering from lung infection for the last two months. He was undergoing treatment at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences i.e. KIMS hospital in Bengaluru. The entire team of doctors were engaged, the family were with him every moment and supporters were asking for prayers. Everything seemed fine till Saturday night but suddenly his condition started deteriorating late at night and at 3.15 am on Sunday morning the hospital declared him dead. Hearing this news, the family members and supporters standing outside the hospital were heartbroken.

How was D. Sudhakar's identity in politics?

D. Sudhakar was one of the few leaders of Karnataka Congress who did not lose touch with his roots even after coming to power. He was the MLA from Hiriyur assembly seat of Chitradurga district and also had the responsibility of the minister in-charge of the district. His speciality was that he stood by his people not only during elections but also in every difficulty. The people of the area considered him their own and this was his biggest identity.

What did DK Shivakumar say?

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's condolence message was not a mere formality. He wrote that Sudhakar was not just his cabinet colleague but a true friend. In politics, there are very few such relationships which are based on the heart. Shivkumar said that people will remember the work Sudhakar did and his departure is a loss for the party and the entire state which will not be easily compensated.

Wave of mourning among family and supporters

As soon as the news spread, the atmosphere changed from Hiriyur to Bengaluru. Workers started gathering in Congress offices, eyes were moist and there was little talk. The pain of a leader who goes from street to street and meets people and listens to their sorrows is different. D. Sudhakar was such a leader and that is why today not just a family but the entire area is in mourning.
