Bengaluru: Seven daily-wage labourers from Bihar were killed and several others were injured on Thursday morning after a massive rock collapsed at a stone quarry in Karnataka's Bengaluru, according to police. A massive rock collapsed at a stone quarry in the Madapatna area of Bengaluru South Taluk.
The incident happened early in the morning when workers were engaged in stone crushing and excavation at the quarry.
Ther accident occurred at a stone crusher site in Madapattana in Bengaluru South Taluk. A worker present there said that approximately 18 people were working at the site when suddenly a huge rock fell on them from a height of approximately 40 feet. According to reports, all the deceased were daily wage laborers working at the stone crusher site.
Police and rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene of the accident and began clearing the debris. The workers injured in the accident were immediately admitted to a nearby private hospital for treatment. The exact number of injured is currently being ascertained.
The administration has sealed the entire area and the debris is being cleared to ensure that no other workers are trapped inside.
The police have confirmed that all seven workers who lost their lives were from Bihar. Efforts are underway to inform their families of the accident. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into how the rock fell and whether safety rules at the mine were ignored or neglected.
