Jabalpur: Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, has taken a significant step regarding an old defamation case. He has filed an application in the Madhya Pradesh High Court expressing written regret over his alleged statement. A single-judge bench of the High Court, presided over by Justice Pramod Kumar Agrawal, is set to hold a crucial hearing on the matter this Thursday.
The case stems from a defamation complaint filed by Kartikeya Singh Chouhan, son of Union Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The application filed on behalf of Rahul Gandhi expresses regret over the statement in question but also clarifies that the remark was not directed at the complainant (Kartikeya Chouhan).
Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to appear personally before the MP-MLA Court on June 25; he had moved the High Court seeking an exemption from this appearance. Following a partial hearing on Wednesday, the Court scheduled a detailed hearing for today (Thursday). Advocate Sankalp Kochar is representing the complainant in the case. Political and legal circles are keenly awaiting the Court's decision today.
