Mumbai Police has arrested two teenage college students from Colaba for allegedly posting images of Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations as their Instagram status.

According to the police, the arrests were prohibitory and the teenagers were released after a warning.

How this case came to light?

This incident came to light when a businessman from Colaba approached Colaba police station on Monday and filed a complaint that a few boys from the area were using Pakistan’s Independence Day celebration as their status on the social media platform, Instagram and stated that this may lead to communal tension.

Following the complaint, later that day, Colaba police’s anti-terrorism squad (ATS) tracked down the boys and brought them to the police station and placed them under prohibitory arrest under CrPC 151 (3).

Police seize phones

Further, the police also checked their mobile phones and found that these boys had indeed used Pakistan’s Independence Day as their story status on Instagram. Police took a screenshot of their mobile phones and seized them.

Briefing about the case, s senior official said, “From their conduct, manner of speaking and behaviour, it seems that they were doing this with the intention of disturbing the law and order in the country on August 15.”

Pakistan which came into existence after a bitter partition from India in 1947 marks August 14 as its day of independence from the Britishers. However, there is a huge conversation that whether Pakistan’s Independence is on August 14 or August 15.
