Punjab Flood Relief (Credit: OpenAI)
Punjab MP Malvinder Singh Kang stood up for flooded villages. He said thousands of people are still stranded. He accused the Centre of ignoring a national food-hero state. He demanded a special relief package of Rs 50,000 crore urgently. He said it’s not a favour but Punjab’s right. He reminded that this state guarded India’s borders for decades. Yet today it is left to suffer alone.
Floods destroyed six border districts badly. Water washed away roads, crops and homes. Over 2,500 villages lost everything within hours. More than five lakh acres of crops were ruined. Schools shut down after collapsing walls. Families are still living in broken houses. But no Central aid has reached any village yet.
Kang questioned why quick packages appear only where elections arrive. Bihar got Rs 50–90 thousand crore promises in the past. But Punjab gets speeches and visits only. People here filled India’s grain stores in crises. Now Delhi is silent when Punjab is in crisis. Kang said this is discrimination, not governance. This silence has caused anger among farmers and youth.
These same villages fought shoulder-to-shoulder with Indian soldiers. They survive terror threats even today. Kang asked — if border citizens are not helped, who will protect the border tomorrow? He said national security should not be repaid with neglect. Punjab expects dignity, not pity. A nation cannot abandon people who defend its land.
Haryana and Rajasthan keep demanding Punjab’s river water. They fight daily for canals and flow rights. But during these floods no support came. Punjab farmers now call it double standards. They battle both disaster and politics. Kang said water disputes should stop when lives are drowning. Neighbours must stand with Punjab, not just take from it.
Villagers want permanent rehabilitation support. Farmers need compensation for seeds and soil. Homes and hospitals must be rebuilt soon. Loan pressure must be removed till crops return. Schools must open again for children. They ask for a transparent process. They want justice quickly, not paperwork slowly.
If funds arrive now, Punjab can rebuild before next monsoon. But every week lost is more suffering. Kang warned that delay will turn hope into outrage. He demanded action beyond camera visits. People want relief, not excuses. Winter is here — and Punjab cannot wait anymore.
