Punjab: There was chaos during a Kabaddi tournament in Mohali, Punjab, when unknown assailants opened fire in the open field. Kabaddi player Rana Balachauria was seriously injured in this attack. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
This incident is being reported from Sector-82. Rana Balachauria, whose real name was Kanwar Digvijay Singh, was also the organizer of this Kabaddi tournament and was going to play the match himself. His age was about 30 years.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, in which suddenly the sound of gunshots is heard during the match. After this there is a stampede among the spectators and players. People are seen running here and there to save their lives. This video was shared by Congress leader and former hockey player Pargat Singh on social media.
Pargat Singh wrote along with the video that the law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated and firing in public programs is a matter of grave concern. Later the same video was also shared on the social media accounts of many other political parties and leaders.
According to the police, Rana Balachauria was taken to Fortis Hospital in Mohali at around 6 pm. He was hit by bullets in his head and face. Doctors declared him dead as soon as he reached the hospital.

People present at the spot told the police that some people had come in a Mahindra Bolero car. They suddenly opened fire on the teams playing in the field and then fled from the spot. The attackers have not been identified yet.
Politics has also heated up after this incident. BJP's Chandigarh unit also shared the same video and alleged a complete breakdown of law and order in Punjab. The party earlier mentioned the attacks on Kabaddi players and said that the players are constantly being targeted.
Police have registered the case, and several teams have been formed to search for the attackers. CCTV footage of the area is being scrutinized. Police say that efforts are being made to reach the accused soon.
