Punjab Women Empowerment
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann recently spoke strongly about the role of women in building the future of the state. He said women who manage homes and families already show strong leadership skills every day. According to him, the same ability can help them lead institutions and governments. Mann said Punjab cannot progress if half of its population stays away from decision making. He praised women entrepreneurs who have built small businesses with hard work. Their stories, he said, should inspire many more women. He also stressed that education gives women the confidence to move ahead. A society grows faster when women stand equal with men.
Mann also encouraged young women to join politics and take active roles in decision making. He said girls today are performing better than boys in many academic fields. Yet politics is still seen as a male dominated space. According to him, this thinking must change quickly. Women leaders often understand social problems closely because they manage families and communities. Their voices can improve laws and policies. Mann said women voters also play a powerful role in democracy. If they vote wisely, they can shape the political future of the state. Greater participation of women will make democracy stronger.
The Chief Minister said Punjab administration is slowly witnessing a major shift. Many important posts are now being held by women officers. Several women have been appointed as Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police. This marks one of the highest numbers of women in such positions. Mann said earlier governments rarely trusted women with these roles. But the current administration wants to change that pattern. When women lead departments, they bring different perspectives to governance. Their presence also inspires young girls across the state. It sends a clear message that leadership has no gender barrier.
While motivating women entrepreneurs, Mann also referred to global examples. He said in many countries women play a huge role in production and industry. Their work contributes directly to national economic strength. Mann urged Punjabi women to learn from historic and cultural figures who showed courage and leadership. Punjab’s history has many examples of brave women. According to him, those values must be remembered today. When women take active roles in economic activity, families become stronger. This strength then spreads to society and the state economy. Mann believes such participation can transform Punjab.
At the event, the government honoured many women entrepreneurs from different districts of Punjab. These women have started small businesses and livelihood projects in their villages. Their work shows how determination can change lives. Each entrepreneur received recognition and financial encouragement. Mann said such awards are not only about honour. They also motivate others to begin their own journey. Self help groups in rural areas are helping women support each other. Many families are now earning through small enterprises. The government believes these groups can create long term economic stability.
The Punjab government has introduced several schemes aimed at improving women’s financial security. Monthly financial assistance programmes are being planned to support households. Special attention is being given to women from weaker sections. The government is also planning ration support for many families. Essential food items will be provided to reduce the burden on household budgets. Mann said welfare support must always work together with education and skill training. Only financial aid cannot solve long term problems. Women need opportunities to earn and grow independently. That is the goal of these programmes.
Mann ended his address by stressing that education is the strongest path to empowerment. He said poverty and inequality cannot be removed without good education. Schools and skill programmes must reach every girl child. The government is working to expand job opportunities for women. Reservation in government jobs has increased female participation. Health services and public facilities are also being improved. Mann said the aim is simple and clear. Women must feel confident about their abilities. When women rise in every field, Punjab will become stronger and more progressive.
