The child has been badly burnt on his face, neck and waist. His condition remains very critical and he is fighting for life and death in King George Medical University, Lucknow.

How did child get into the marriage?

Chaman is a resident of Durjanpur village of Nawabganj police station area of Gonda district. After the untimely death of his mother, he was living at his maternal home in Baghanala of Basti and was studying in class two. On Wednesday, along with his grandmother, he had gone to Malauli Gosai village to attend the wedding of a relative's daughter.

What happened at the banquet venue?

There was an atmosphere of happiness in the marriage. While playing, Chaman reached the dining place and started eating the Rasgullas kept there. According to eyewitnesses, he had eaten two Rasgullas and then started taking one more. Angered by this, the catering contractor scolded the child, then picked him up to scare him and took him near the tandoor and turned his head towards the fire. Uncontrollable in anger, the accused sprinkled diesel on the child and pushed him into the burning tandoor.

How the child's screams created a stir in the entire ceremony?

The people present at the wedding got scared after hearing the screams coming from the tandoor. The family members immediately ran and took the child out. By then his body was in the grip of fire. He was immediately taken to Ayodhya Medical College, where after first aid, seeing his serious condition, the doctors referred him to Lucknow.

DSP Swarnima Singh said that a case has been registered against an unknown person in the matter. Police are conducting raids in search of the accused and have claimed to arrest him soon. A thorough investigation of the entire matter is going on.

What lesson emerges from this incident?

This incident highlights the dangerous mentality of not being able to control the safety of children, catering arrangements and not being able to control anger over small things during wedding ceremonies. Society will have to think seriously about the presence of children at the workplace and their treatment. After the completion of the police investigation, justice can be expected only through the arrest of the accused and court action.
