Heavy Rain Disrupts Traffic in Greater Noida as Waterlogged Roads Slow Commute (X)
Greater Noida: While the heavy monsoon rain in Noida and Greater Noida brought relief from the scorching heat and humidity. The rain, which lasted for about an hour brought relief from the heat, b t problems of waterlogging and traffic jams also arose in many areas.
After the rain began around 12 noon on Wednesday, the main road connecting Noida to Surajpur in Greater Noida was heavily waterlogged near Kulesara. The entire road turned into a pond, forcing many vehicles to stop midway and slowing down traffic.
After the rain, the road in the Kuleshara area was so flooded with water that it became difficult for two-wheelers and four-wheelers to pass. Many vehicles were stranded, while long traffic jams caused inconvenience for hours. Locals said that this situation occurs on this road every year during the monsoon, but no permanent solution is found.
People said that every year, the Greater Noida Authority claims water-free roads and a better drainage system before the monsoon, but this time too, the system failed with the first rain. Residents said that if the drains and drainage systems had been cleaned in time, so much water would not have accumulated on the roads.
The rain has certainly brought relief from the heat and humidity, but the waterlogging has raised questions about the city's infrastructure. If the heavy rain continues in the coming days, waterlogging could worsen in many other low-lying areas. Maintaining a proper drainage system will be a major challenge for the administration.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Noida and Greater Noida for Wednesday and Thursday. According to the department, the monsoon is fully active in the region, and a western disturbance is also impacting the region. Intermittent light to moderate rain is expected from July 10 to 13. The maximum temperature is expected to be 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 24 degrees Celsius, with the humidity around 80 per cent.
