Noida: Gunshots echoed through Noida late on October 15 as police engaged in an encounter with two alleged chain-snatching suspects near Sector 43. According to the police, the two motorcycle-borne suspects attempted to flee during a routine checking operation and allegedly opened fire on the police team when they found themselves surrounded. The police retaliated in self-defence, injuring both suspects.

The police recovered two illegal country-made pistols, cartridges, a stolen Royal Enfield Hunter motorcycle and ₹2.19 lakh in cash from the accused. Investigators suspect that the recovered money is linked to a chain-snatching incident reported in the Sector 39 police station area. Further investigation is underway.

Suspects Flee During Checking, Police Corner Them Near a Forested Route

According to the police, a team from Sector 39 Police Station was checking suspicious persons and vehicles near a nursery on Dadri Road in Sector 43 on the night of October 15.

During the operation, two men riding a motorcycle approached from the Sector 49 Red Light intersection. When the police signalled them to stop, the riders allegedly accelerated towards Stellar Green Park instead of complying.

Suspecting their involvement in criminal activity, the police team pursued them and alerted additional personnel for assistance. As the suspects found themselves surrounded, they turned their motorcycle onto a road leading towards a wooded area near Stellar Green Park from Som Bazaar.

Due to the rain, the motorcycle reportedly skidded, causing both riders to fall. According to the police, the suspects then opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence.

Both Suspects Injured in Retaliatory Firing, Shifted to Hospital

The police retaliated, injuring both suspects during the encounter. They were identified as Salman, 30, son of Ayyub and a resident of Mohanpur, Nure Ilahi Colony, Bhajanpura, Delhi, and Tanveer, 37, son of Mainuddin and a resident of Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda, Bhajanpura, Delhi.

Both injured men were immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Two Illegal Pistols, Four Cartridges and ₹2.19 Lakh Recovered

Following the encounter, the police recovered two illegal .315-bore country-made pistols, two empty cartridges and two live cartridges from the suspects. The motorcycle allegedly used in the operation was also found to be stolen. During the investigation into the ₹2.19 lakh recovered from the accused, the police found information suggesting that the cash was connected to a chain-snatching incident within the jurisdiction of Sector 39 Police Station.

The police are examining the recovered cash and other evidence to establish the suspects' alleged involvement in the crime.

92 Criminal Cases Registered Against the Accused in Delhi-NCR

According to the police, Salman has 48 criminal cases registered against him across Delhi-NCR, including cases related to chain-snatching, robbery and theft. Tanveer has reportedly been linked to 44 similar cases. The police are verifying the records and investigating the suspects' alleged involvement in other criminal incidents across the region.

Operation Conducted Under Senior Officers' Supervision

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Singh, along with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 39 Police Station and his team.

According to the police, the team's prompt response helped track down the suspects, leading to the encounter and their subsequent arrest in an injured condition. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of their alleged involvement in chain-snatching and other criminal activities.
