Lucknow: Following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Uttar Pradesh, about 20.4 million names were removed from electoral rolls in SIR exercise and final list now totals over 13.39 crore voters. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's constituency, Gorakhpur City, saw the lowest number of votes deleted, at 33,094, making it one of the top five urban areas in the state with the lowest decline. 

What about other areas?

Gorakhpur saw the lowest number of names deleted from the list with 33,094. In contrast, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak's Lucknow Cantt assembly constituency saw the highest number of names deleted, at 1,47,000. 

When compared to the pre-SIR rolls, Lucknow saw deletion of 22.89 per cent voters, Ghaziabad 20.84 per cent, Kanpur Nagar 19.42 per cent, Gautam Buddha Nagar 19.33 per cent, Meerut 18.75 per cent, Shahjahanpur 17.90 per cent, Agra 17.71 per cent, Prayagraj 17.62 per cent, Hapur 17.59 per cent, Kannauj 17.21 per cent, Balrampur 17.20 per cent, Budaun 16.13 per cent, Bahraich 16.12 per cent, Farrukhabad 15.96 per cent, Sonbhadra 14.77 per cent, Etawah 14.57 per cent, Sambhal 14.47 per cent, and Siddharthnagar 14.32 per cent.

What about voter turnout?

On average, voter turnout per seat across the state was 13.24 per cent. Analysis shows that Samajwadi Party seats saw fewer vote cuts than Bharatiya Janata Party seats. BJP's vote share declined by an average of 18.11 per cent in urban seats, while SP's vote share declined by 16.36 per cent in urban seats.

According to SIR data, vote loss ranged from 26,000 to 107,000 in 102 SP seats, while it ranged from 26,000 to 316,000 in 257 BJP seats. The Muslim-majority Amroha city (an SP seat) saw the lowest vote loss of 26,233, while the BJP's Sahibabad seat saw the highest vote loss of 316,484. 

In rural areas, the difference between the two parties is only around 1 per cent.
