UP Man Kills Parents, Grandmother, Sister With Axe Over Money Dispute (X)

Bahraich: A man allegedly killed his parents, grandmother and sister with an axe on Sunday, reportedly over a money dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district. During the incident, the accused also struck himself with a brick multiple times, injuring himself, police said.

When did the incident happen?

The killing incident happened in Ramgaon hamlet of Basantpur Rudal village in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Nirankar (30), following a dispute over money used an axe to murder his father, mother, grandmother and sister, all of whom died at the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Badlu Ram (60), his wife Sanju Devi (56), daughter Parvati (about 42), and Sitala (80).

The accused also attacked his elder brother, Gurudev, and also hit himself with a brick.

What did the police say?

The police said that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and a large force has been deployed in the village to maintain order.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari said that, "Gurudev lodged a written complaint that he found his younger brother Nirankar quarrelling with his father over money received from sale of land and jewellery."

According to police, "In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly attacked family members with an axe, causing fatal injuries to his parents, grandmother and sister."

The police said that the blood-stained axe used in the crime has been recovered.

Gurudev in the complaint said that the accused also struck him with the axe with an intent to kill and informed that he also struck himself with a brick multiple times during the incident.

The police have registered a case against Nirankar on the basis of complaint.

Was the accused arrested?

Police took the accused into custody from the spot and later admitted him to District Hospital Bahraich from were he was referred to Lucknow due to his critical condition.

According to officials, the preliminary inquiry suggests that the accused in a bit of rage over not getting money from the sale of land.
