Dehradun: Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister, a retired Major General and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri passed away at a private hospital in Dehradun on Tuesday at the age of 91, following a prolonged illness.
According to Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri's family, he had been undergoing treatment and was admitted to Max Super Speciality Hospital, where he died during the treatment.
According to ANI news agency, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri's son, Manish Khanduri, said that his father was undergoing treatment at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Dehradun, where he passed away this morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound sorrow over the demise of the former Chief Minister, Major General (Retd.) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and also said that he will always be remembered for his service.
Taking to X, in Hindi PM Modi wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Major General Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri (Retd.) Ji. From the armed forces to the political arena, he made invaluable contributions, for which he will always be remembered.”
Many leaders, including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, expressed grief over the passing away of former Chief Minister and said that Khanduri's contributions to Uttarakhand's development and good governance will always be remembered. and called it an irreparable loss" for the state as well as for national political life.
Taking to X, in Hindi Uttarakhand Chief Minister wrote, “While serving in the Indian Army, Shri Khanduri Ji exemplified unparalleled dedication to national service, discipline, and commitment.”
Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, is a senior BJP leader, who served two terms as Uttarakhand Chief Minister from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. He was known as a leader with firm decision-making and a strict administrative approach.
His journey from the army uniform to the Chief Minister's post is considered an example not only in Uttarakhand but also in national politics.
