Dehradun: Due to the changing weather patterns, the Uttarakhand administration is on high alert. Amidst alerts for heavy rainfall and snowfall in several districts of the state, holidays have been declared in schools and Anganwadi centers.

What is the weather forecast by IMD?

The Meteorological Center Dehradun and NDMA's Sachet (National Disaster Alert Portal) have predicted heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and moderate to heavy snowfall in some areas of Dehradun district on Saturday. ​​An orange alert has been issued in view of this.

Considering the severe weather conditions and potential disaster risks, the district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all educational institutions from classes 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centers as a precautionary measure.

In addition, holidays have also been ordered in Tehri and Pauri districts. Meanwhile, in Kumaon, due to snowfall and rain followed by a severe cold wave, schools up to the intermediate level and Anganwadi centers in Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts (except Nainital district) remained closed on Saturday.

What is the situation in Uttarakhand?

Considering the rain and snowfall in the district, the Tehri district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all government, private, and aided schools and all Anganwadi centers in the district on Saturday.

This order was issued by the District Disaster Management Authority Chairperson and District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal, based on the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Center Dehradun.

The administration has clarified that this decision has been taken to prevent any untoward incidents in view of the severe weather conditions. The administration has instructed all school principals and managers to ensure strict compliance with the order.

Action will be taken against those who violate the order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The district administration has also appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel in view of the weather.

Due to rain and snowfall in the Garhwal district, all government and private schools from classes 1 to 12 will remain closed on January 24th.

District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria has declared a one-day holiday on January 24th for all government, semi-government, and private schools, as well as all Anganwadi centers in the district, to ensure the safety of students during the winter season.
