Apple goes next level! iOS 18 unveils on-device generative AI capabilities, enhancing user experience

The business is probably going to take advantage of Apple Silicon's expertise to execute its large language model (LLM) directly on the processor, doing no processing in the cloud.

According to reports, Apple is working on a large language model (LLM) of its own to power generative AI features for on-device use in the future iPhone series. A report from Bloomberg indicates that Apple's AI model is probably going to run only on the iPhone. It basically means that Apple's original AI functions would function without requiring an internet connection when offline.

Apple and AI

According to the source, Apple plans to introduce new AI features using the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) of the Apple Silicon that drives its iPhones. But it is possible that Apple's AI tools are a little less sophisticated and potent than those of competitors like Google and Microsoft-backed OpenAI. Apple might be able to close this knowledge gap. The features provided by these outside service providers might be processed on the device instead of Apple's exclusive AI technologies.

AI power unleashed!

As previously reported, the Cupertino, California-based tech behemoth has been in talks to integrate AI tools and capabilities into Apple's upcoming operating system with a number of businesses, including Google, Microsoft-backed Open AI, and China's Baidu. The source claims that Apple intends to market its impending AI features using a rather different strategy. Apple plans to demonstrate how its features can assist consumers in managing their everyday routines, rather than emphasizing the speed and strength of its AI model.

AI is the future!

From June 10 to June 14, Apple will hold its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), during which it will reveal the upcoming iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and other platforms. Apple has stated time and time again that it is developing AI capabilities, which will probably be included into the next platforms. Apple is probably going to integrate generative AI into the Messages app and Siri, its virtual assistant, to enable functions like text summarization, recommendations, and more. It is possible that Keynotes, Pages, Apple Music, and other apps on the Apple platform will also receive AI treatment.
