No Signal? No Problem: BSNL Launches VoWi-Fi Calling Service Nationwide

New Delhi: Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started Voice over Wi-Fi, i.e., VoWiFi service, across the country. This facility is now available in all telecom circles. The company gave this information through social media. BSNL says that this service has been brought for those areas where the mobile network does not work or is very weak. Especially users living in rural and remote areas will benefit from this.

Why was there a need to start VoWiFi service?

Network problems still persist in many parts of the country. Be it hilly areas or villages, call drops and no signal are common. In such a situation, BSNL has given the option of calling through Wi-Fi. The company believes that this can solve the major problem of connectivity.

What exactly is VoWiFi?

VoWiFi is a technology. In this, calls are made through a Wi-Fi network instead of a mobile tower. If there is no network in the phone, but Wi-Fi is on, calls can be made. Calls will also be received. Messages can also be sent.

Do I need to download a separate app for this?

No. BSNL has made it clear that there is no need for any app. The call will be made through the phone's default dialer only. The user will not have to pay any extra charge. This facility will be available in the existing plan only.
