Tech News: Google Gemini AI Photos' Nano Banana feature has been in the news on social media for the past few days. People are using this tool to convert their photos into 3D models, retro saree looks, and animated characters and then sharing them on Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms. While this feature is attracting people for fun editing, now the question is arising in the minds of many users whether the location is being leaked from these edited photos.

Google's statement: Photos are completely safe

Google has clarified that all the photos uploaded on Gemini are completely safe. The company says that these pictures are processed on their Google server, and without user permission, they are neither given to any third party nor used for AI training.

Google also claims that the Gemini Tool follows Strict data protection rules like Europe's GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the US CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act). This means that your photos and data related to them will not be used anywhere else without your permission.

The real danger is from metadata

However, cybersecurity experts believe that the danger of location leaks is not from the content of the photo but from its metadata. When you click a photo with a mobile or camera, some important details are automatically saved with it. This is called metadata. This may include this information:

  • From which device the photo was taken
  • Date and time of clicking the photo
  • Location when clicking the photo (GPS Coordinates)

If you upload a photo to a platform without removing this metadata, anyone can access this information. This can leak your location and other personal details.

How to stay safe

This makes it clear that there is no danger from photo editing or its style (like a 3D model or retro saree look). The real danger is from the hidden information that is saved inside the photo.

Use these tips:

  • Clear the metadata of the photo before sharing it.
  • Go to the settings and turn off the location tagging option of the camera.
  • While sharing photos from third-party apps, read their privacy policy.
  • Be sure to remove metadata before sharing photos

The Nano Banana feature of Gemini AI Photos is only for fun photo editing and Google has made it clear that it will not misuse your photos. The real danger is from the metadata containing the location and other information hidden in your photo. So if you want to be cautious about your privacy, then be sure to remove the metadata before sharing the photo.
