Sundar Pichai on Google’s Scientific Glory: Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently congratulated Michel Devoret, John Martinis, and John Clarke for winning the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics. He also wrote a post on social media platform X. Pichai said that Michel Devoret is the chief scientist at Google's Quantum AI Lab, while John Martinis has led the lab's hardware team for many years. He said their pioneering research in the 1980s laid the foundation for recent breakthroughs in quantum mechanics and opened the way for future error-corrected quantum computers.
Pichai wrote in his post, "Congratulations to Michel Devoret, John Martinis and John Clarke on the Nobel Prize in Physics. Michel is the Chief Scientist of Hardware at our Quantum AI Lab and John Martinis led the lab's hardware team for many years." He further added, "In the 1980s, his pioneering work made the recent breakthrough possible and opened the direction of the future error-corrected Quantum Computer." Pichai also mentioned the tour of his Santa Barbara Quantum Lab and described the progress there as 'amazing'. He told that Google now counts a total of 5 Nobel winners in its current and former staff.
