New Delhi: Most new air conditioners are not only for cooling machines—they work as secret heaters to keep you warm through the whole winter. If your AC has a heat mode or reverse cycle option, you have a way to save money that can cut your heating costs by up to 40 per cent when compared to traditional room heaters. The key is in inverter and split AC units that comes with heat pump technology. Unlike window ACs, these types can reverse their work, taking heat from the air outside and pumping it inside. Check for a sun sign or "HEAT" option on your remote control—that is your way to cozy winters without buying additional heating equipment.

How do you turn on heat mode in your AC?

Turning your Air Conditioner (AC) to heat mode in a very easiest and quickest way. Just you need to Push the Mode button on your remote control device until the sun sign or "HEAT" shows up, then pick a temperature from 24–26° Celsius for the best comfort and low energy use. Do not worry if cool air comes out at first—your AC takes within a minutes to switch its compressor before hot air starts to flow. For good results, close doors and windows well, turn on swing mode to spread heat evenly, and do not set temperatures over 27° Celsius, as that uses more energy without much extra warmth.

Why does an AC in heat mode save money and power?

Here is what changes everything: AC heat pumps move heat that already exists instead of making it new like electric heaters. This lets inverter ACs use 30 to 40 per cent less energy in winter months, which means smaller electricity bills while keeping rooms at nice temperatures. But how well it works depends on room sealing and size. Rooms with bad sealing or too much space will use more energy no matter the system. Use your AC heater wisely in closed rooms to get the most savings and keep warm without spending too much this winter.
