Technology News: Meta has announced that its Messenger app will shut down in 60 days. After that, users will no longer be able to use the app but can access Messenger through Facebook’s website or messenger.com.
Meta told TechCrunch that the Messenger desktop app for Windows and Mac will be discontinued from December 15. After this date, you won’t be able to log in. If you try to open the app, it will redirect you to the Facebook website. It is advised to uninstall the Messenger app after December 15 as it will no longer function. AppleInsider first reported Meta’s plan to discontinue desktop apps.
Users are concerned about their chat history after the app shuts down. Meta says chat history will remain available only if the “Secure Storage” option is turned on. This feature saves and syncs your encrypted chats across devices. To check if this feature is on, go to Settings → Privacy & Safety → End-to-End Encrypted Chats, then tap Message Storage and see if the Secure Storage option is active.
