National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched BSNL’s Swadeshi 4G technology from Jharsuguda in Odisha. He called it a historic step for self-reliance. With this, India joined nations like Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, and China. Over 97,500 mobile towers have been set up at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore. Among them, 92,600 are brand-new BSNL sites. This marks a new beginning for BSNL in telecom history. The announcement was greeted with enthusiasm across Odisha.
More than 18,900 towers funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi will bring connections to 26,700 unserved villages. These villages include remote and border areas of the country. Most towers are solar-powered, making them part of India’s biggest green telecom cluster. People living in far-flung areas will now get reliable mobile services. PM Modi said this will bridge the digital divide. It will empower villagers with better access to communication.
PM Modi laid foundations for key railway projects. These included the Sambalpur-Sarla flyover and doubling of Koraput-Baiguda and Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur lines. He flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Surat. This will improve affordable travel and tourism in the region. Railway projects are aimed at reducing congestion and speeding up connectivity. Odisha will directly benefit as it links more closely with other states.
Healthcare projects were also part of the announcements. MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur will be upgraded into super-specialty hospitals. Trauma, maternal, and child care facilities will be expanded. New dental colleges will also be opened. These steps are designed to provide modern healthcare to the people of Odisha. PM Modi said the government is committed to improving healthcare access in every region.
Higher education also received a boost in Odisha. The Prime Minister announced expansion of eight IITs. These will create seats for 10,000 new students in the coming four years. This will strengthen India’s knowledge economy and benefit Odisha’s youth. PM Modi said these steps will prepare the state’s students for global opportunities. Skill development programs will also run alongside higher education expansion.
PM Modi highlighted a Rs 70,000 crore shipbuilding package. He said shipbuilding is vital for national security and economic growth. From trade to defense, strong shipbuilding means strength in every sector. He added that India must be self-reliant “from chip to ship.” During crises, own ships will secure exports and imports. This sector will also create jobs and boost industrial growth.
PM Modi praised Odisha’s rapid progress. He said development is moving at “double engine” speed with both state and centre working together. The projects reflect commitment to inclusive growth. He said Odisha’s role in India’s rise is growing stronger. Investments in telecom, railways, healthcare, and education will uplift the region. The Prime Minister urged people to take full advantage of new opportunities. Odisha, he said, is now firmly on the fast track.
