On May 28, Opera announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to significantly enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The collaboration will see Google’s Gemini models integrated into Opera’s Aria AI platform, leveraging large language models (LLMs) for advanced features such as image generation and text-to-voice capabilities. This marks a new phase in Opera's AI-driven innovation.

Enhanced AI Engine with Real-Time Data

Previously, Opera’s composer AI engine processed user intents and selected the appropriate model for each task. With the addition of Google’s Gemini AI, Opera aims to provide users with the most current information available. This real-time data integration is expected to enhance browser performance and user experience, delivering up-to-date responses and more accurate results.

New Capabilities: Image Generation and Voice Output

One of the notable outcomes of this partnership is the introduction of AI-powered image generation and voice output in the Aria platform. These features represent a significant enhancement in Opera's AI functionality.

To support its expanding AI program, Opera has launched a green energy-powered AI data cluster in Iceland, utilizing NVIDIA DGX technology. This initiative aims to rapidly expand Opera’s AI capabilities, positioning it as a leader in the AI-driven browser market.

Future Developments and Plans

Looking ahead, Opera has confirmed that Aria AI will soon be able to read out its generated responses in a natural and conversational tone, thanks to Google’s advanced text-to-audio model. This feature is currently available for public testing on the Opera One Developer release. However, details regarding the full rollout of the new update have not yet been disclosed.

Opera’s collaboration with Google Cloud and the integration of Gemini models represent a significant advancement in the browser’s AI capabilities, focusing on future growth. With features like real-time data processing, voice output, and image generation, Opera is poised to enhance user experience and maintain its competitive edge in the evolving landscape of AI technology.
