WhatsApp Web Users Can Now Make Voice and Video Calls Without Desktop App (WhatsApp)
New Delhi: Till now, people used WhatsApp Web as a helpful tool. This was convenient for texting, but calling required a phone or desktop app. To overcome this shortcoming, WhatsApp has started providing voice and video calling facilities on the web version. Now users will be able to make calls directly from the browser. No additional software will be required for this.
Users on whose accounts this feature has been activated will start seeing call icons above the chat window. The user just has to click on it. After this the option of voice or video call appears. The call connects within the browser.
The use of WhatsApp Web is continuously increasing. Especially users doing office and work-from-home use it more. Such users have been demanding calls on the web for a long time. It is believed that the company has taken this step keeping this need in mind.
Now there will be no compulsion to keep the mobile in hand to make a call. Conversation can be done only while working on a laptop or desktop. Meetings, quick discussions, and private conversations will all be possible from a single screen. This will also save time.
At present, only a one-to-one calling facility is provided on WhatsApp Web. Group calling is not available yet. Although the company is working on this feature. Initially the quality and stability of calls is being tested first.
The company says that there has been no compromise on security even in web calling. Voice and video calls will be protected with end-to-end encryption as before. That means the conversation will not reach any third person during the call.
The option to share a screen during a video call is also provided on WhatsApp Web. This feature was already present in the desktop app. Now with its coming on the web, work-related conversations will become easier.
This feature is considered special for those who use operating systems like Linux. There is no official desktop app of WhatsApp. Such users will now be able to make calls directly from the browser.
Currently this feature has been made available for beta users of WhatsApp Web. The company is taking it forward in a phased manner. It can be released for all users in the coming days.
Tech experts believe that WhatsApp Web will be further strengthened after calling. Features like group calling and additional controls may be added in the future. This change in WhatsApp Web clearly indicates that the company does not want to limit it to just the messaging platform. It is gradually becoming a complete communication tool.
