As per the reports, WhatsApp recently started the rollout of a new privacy feature. This facilitates users in selecting the degree of privacy for the links they share in chats. Although the feature has not yet been made public, several beta-testing accounts have noticed it. It is also rumored that WhatsApp is working on a new video-viewing function for the app. According to a recent report, the company is developing a locked chat feature for devices that are linked, and it should be released in a future update. In May 2023, WhatsApp started rolling out the Chat Lock feature for smartphones.

Anroid Police Report

A report from Android Police claims that WhatsApp started handing out a link privacy feature to selected beta testers. With this feature, users can opt not to have a thumbnail preview or any other information about the article displayed next to the link. This will prevent anyone trying to spy on the talks from learning any details about the link.

It is anticipated that this functionality will also help in clearing and improving the chats' navigability. More significantly, data leak prevention is also expected. Within the Settings menu of WhatsApp, beta testers can find this feature by tapping on Privacy > Advanced. From there, they can disable link previews.

Picture-in-Picture Support on iOS

Meanwhile, its company is reportedly working on a new video viewing feature, according to a report from WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. This would enable users to see videos that have been shared within the app among contacts in a picture-in-picture section. This bears similarity to the picture-in-picture functionality accessible through WhatsApp while viewing shared videos from YouTube and Instagram.

According to the report, you can only view WhatsApp media videos picture-in-picture using the WhatsApp app; you cannot access them through any other app. This implies that you can view a video that a contact of yours sent you, exit the conversation, and participate in other groups or chats on WhatsApp while the video in question keeps playing in a smaller window. Additionally, it stated that it is still not ready and is under development. Thus, a public release might not happen very soon.
