New Delhi: An interesting and unique case has come to light in some countries of the world where the price of beer is less than bottled water, and this trend has become a topic of discussion for both travelers and locals. In some places the price of bottled water is so high that local beer is available cheaper than that. This difference is clearly visible in hotels, restaurants, and tourist locations, due to which this issue is being discussed a lot on social media also.
This situation is being seen in many countries of Europe. Cases of beer being priced lower than water are becoming common in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, and some other cities. Beer is also seen as the national drink in Prague, so its cost is much lower here and beer often appears cheaper than water on restaurant menus.
Many hotels want to show how deep the local culture is by keeping beer in their mini-bars at low prices. Water prices are often kept high considering tax or brand value. Because of this, travelers sometimes get cheaper beer than buying drinking water.
In many cities of Europe, drinking beer is not just a habit but is considered a part of social culture. Therefore, beer prices remain well controlled according to production, tax and supply chain.
Tourists find this experience surprising because in countries like India, beer is seen as a luxury item, whereas there it is often available at a lower price than water. Many people are sharing their bills on social media, where water bottles are available for 2 to 4 euros and beer for 1 to 1.5 euros. Although this is not the case everywhere, due to tourism and local food in these countries, travelers often experience beer as cheaper than water, especially when bottled water is sold at a higher price in hotels or pubs.
