Many sections of India begin to report temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius by the time May rolls around. It can seem like an hour is spent stopping at a signal and waiting for the light to turn green. At the traffic light, the Puducherry Public Works Department has now installed green shade canopies that stretch a few meters.

Sun be wilding!

This provides a break from the sun for people waiting at the signal while riding two wheels. A video showing these shaded nets across a short section of road at the traffic signal was shared on Thursday by an X user. In less than a day, over 7 lakh people saw this little video. Numerous commenters commended the Puducherry administration for these thoughtful actions.

Traffic light curtains can effectively discourage people from jumping red lights, particularly in the summer when they might be tempted to do so in order to cool off. What an amazing initiative by the Pondicherry Public Works Department! An X user commended this one. Building a shade structure at a busy intersection is an easy yet effective solution to make commuters' and locals' daily life better. In terms of physical comfort and general well-being, having a location to escape the scorching sun's rays can be quite beneficial during the oppressive heat.
