In-flight proposal (Instagram/@hammondschool)
Viral News: A love for the silver screen has become a love for life for Pennsylvania CEO Sam Riber, 34, who on Christmas Eve mid-air with his girlfriend, Lissy Alden, 37, on her way to Mexico City to celebrate her birthday, reenacted one of the memorable scenes from Adam Sandler's 1998 comedy The Wedding Singer.
According to Riber, he planned the proposal since last October 2024. Feeling that the moment should be made special, he had decided to reenact a movie scene where Sandler serenades his girlfriend with a ukulele by singing the couple's favorite song, "Grow Old With You." The ukulele was smuggled on board by the pain management company's CEO, and Alden did not suspect a thing. With the help of the flight attendants and with a prearranged code word—juice—Riber carried out the plan.
So in the flight from North Carolina to Mexico City, Riber stood up and began serenading Alden with the ballad. Dumbfounded, sitting passengers were, as he proposed, and Alden replied with a firm "Yes. He explained the motivation behind this pop-up: love for movies. He started allowing Alden to watch The Wedding Singer without any, well, fanfare, but quite some time before the actual movie.
To the flight attendant, Teri Ramirez, businessman Riber acknowledged special gratitude because "the crew made it all very possible," he told reporters.
The couple is now enjoying the moment and their stay in Mexico since they are officially engaged. There are no set dates for the couple's wedding, but they are excited about the journey.
