Man Quits Rs 38,000 Job, Opens Tea Stall And Earns Rs 1 Lakh A Month, Post Goes Viral

New Delhi: A post on X is getting a lot of attention. User Ankit Pandey shared the story of his neighbour who quit a salaried job to open a tea stall and is now reportedly earning far more than he ever did at work. The neighbour recently came to Ankit's house with a box of sweets to share some good news. He has expanded his shop and was celebrating.

What did the neighbour do?

The neighbour was working at a company and drawing a salary of around Rs 38,000 a month. In May he quit. People around him thought he was making a mistake by walking away from a stable job. He did not listen to them. He invested around Rs 2 lakh and opened a tea stall near an auto stand. He hired two women employees to make and serve tea. The stall sells regular tea at Rs 10 a cup and a premium variety at Rs 20.

What are the numbers?

The stall sells around 400 cups of tea every day. That works out to roughly Rs 6,000 in daily revenue and around Rs 1.80 lakh in monthly sales. Monthly expenses include Rs 25,000 in rent, Rs 30,000 in staff salaries and around Rs 25,000 on electricity and raw materials. After all expenses the owner is left with approximately Rs 1 lakh a month. He has now added a vada pav, samosa and jalebi counter to the stall as well. The sweets he distributed were to celebrate this expansion.

Ankit wrote in his post that if his neighbour had stayed in his job he would still be waiting for his next salary hike. He said sometimes the biggest promotion is the one a person gives himself. The post sparked a debate online about jobs versus business. Many people called it an inspiring example of courage and self-belief.
