Mumbai Man Loses Rs 10,000 in Dating App Scam; Social Media Warns ‘This Happens All the Time’

Trending News: A man from Mumbai shared a harrowing experience on the social media platform Reddit after he was allegedly scammed by a woman he met on the dating app Aisle. In his post titled “Got scammed through dating app,” he explained how what began as a casual meetup turned into a costly lesson, ending up costing him almost Rs 10,000.

Man Meets Woman on Dating App 'Aisle'

The man said he connected with the woman on the dating app Aisle. They decided to meet one evening near Upvan Lake, Thane. After waiting for about an hour, the woman arrived and suggested going to a nearby bar. “She asked me to come to a place near there as she got off,” he wrote. “It was close to a bar. I thought why not, and went inside. The hall had music and chairs, but very few people were there.”

The woman led him to a bar named Paablo Baar and Lounch, according to the bill. She started ordering premium Blue Label whisky repeatedly, without mentioning the quantity. Meanwhile, he had just a beer and later a vodka. “She kept ordering Blue Label until she had four bottles,” he wrote.

The Bill Shock

When the bill arrived, it totaled Rs 24,000, plus Rs 2,000 for service. “I had only around Rs 2,000 for myself; the rest was for the Blue Label,” he said. He added that he finally paid Rs 10,000 under pressure as the staff “looked like someone you don’t want to mess with.” He noticed others in the bar seemed trapped in similar scams. Afterward, the woman said she was scared and left, calling an auto from a distance and cutting off contact.

The Reddit post gained quick attention online, with users pointing out that such scams are very common on dating apps. One user wrote, “Bhai tum news aur Reddit nahi padhte ho kya. This scam has been happening for 3–4 years.” Another shared, “I had a similar experience on Aisle. She kept asking to go to a bar instead of coffee. It felt like a setup for drinks and looting.” A third person advised, “If a girl asks to meet at a Thane pub, verify carefully first.”
