Panipat Horror: Woman With Leg Fracture Undergoes Heart Surgery In Private Hospital, Dies

Panipat: A private hospital in Panipat, Haryana has been accused of serious negligence in treatment. A woman, who was admitted after breaking her leg in a road accident, allegedly underwent wrong surgery, following which she died. The family alleges that instead of operating the leg, the doctors inserted a stent (ring) in the woman's heart. Not only this, but the consent of the family was not even taken before the operation and the hospital forged signatures on the admission documents. On the basis of the complaint, the police have registered a case against the doctors of the hospital and started investigation.

How did the woman reach the hospital?

According to the deceased's son Kuldeep, his family is originally from Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and has been living in Ramesh Nagar area of Panipat for the last 15 years. His mother Guddi Devi worked in a factory. She suffered a fracture in her leg during a bike accident in Ghaziabad on July 24. After first aid, she was admitted to Park Hospital located on GT Road, Panipat.

Was the admission done on Ayushman card?

Family members say that the woman was immediately admitted to the hospital after showing her Ayushman Bharat card. They allege that the doctors were clearly told that the bone of the woman's leg was broken, but despite this, heart surgery was done without any prior information and written permission. The family claims that a stent was inserted in the woman's heart, even though it was not needed. The woman died during this process.

Why was there an allegation of forging signatures?

Kuldeep alleges that the hospital administration forged signatures on the admission documents without the knowledge of the family. When the family members raised questions on this, the hospital staff instead of giving satisfactory answers started threatening them. She says the hospital said, "Do whatever you want, nothing will happen to us."

What action did the police take?

After receiving information about the matter, Sector 29 Police Station reached the hospital and registered the complaint of the family members. Station in-charge (SHO) Subhash said that on the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered against the doctors of Park Hospital under sections 106, 318 (4) and 351 (2) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). Police have sent the woman's body for postmortem and further action will be taken based on the report.

What did the hospital management say?

When the hospital administration was contacted in this matter, some time was first sought. Later, hospital CEO Neha said that she would give any official reaction on the matter only after seeing the copy of the FIR. At present the police are investigating the entire incident and other documents including medical records are also being examined.
