Himanta Biswa Sarma Takes Oath As Assam Chief Minister For Second Straight Term; PM Modi Present (x)
Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday took oath as the Assam Chief Minister for a second consecutive term in Guwahati, with this the 57-year-old has become the first non-Congress leader in the state to assume charge as the Chief Minister for a second successive term.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday administered the oath of office to Himanta Biswa Sarma as the next Chief Minister of Assam, this is the third NDA government in Assam, and Sarma has become the only non-Congress chief minister to achieve the feat in the state.

After a historic performance in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of the state, Himanta Biswa Sarma, took place on Tuesday at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara in Guwahati, making the 57-year-old, the first non-Congress leader in the state to assume charge as the Chief Minister for a second successive term.
The NDA, comprising the BJP, AGP and BPF, secured a sweeping mandate in the Assam assembly elections, winning a record 102 seats in the 126-member House. The BJP alone bagged 82, its first single-party majority in the state, while AGP and BPF won 10 seats each.
