Guwahati: Tuesday is going to be a special day in Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again take an oath as Chief Minister. He will become the first non-Congress leader of Assam to become CM for two consecutive terms. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta had also been CM twice but his tenure was interrupted midway.

Who will come to the oath ceremony?

Big personalities of the country will gather in this ceremony to be held in Guwahati. Many Union Ministers including PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive. Chief Ministers and deputy chief ministers of 22 NDA-ruled states will also attend. Industrialists, religious leaders and ambassadors of some countries can also come. Among the non-NDA states, only Mizoram CM Lal Duhoma has been called.

How many ministers will take oath?

Along with Sarma, some other leaders can also take oath as ministers. There can be a maximum of 19 people including the CM in the Assam cabinet. But till now Sarma has not revealed anyone's name.

When will the names of the ministers be known?

Sarma said that the names are ready in his mind but the announcement will be made only after the consent of the BJP leadership. There will be talks with BJP President Nitin Naveen and a decision will be taken by late Monday night. The MLAs who will become ministers will be informed on Tuesday morning.

Which tenure of NDA is this?

This will be the third consecutive NDA government in Assam. BJP, Assam Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front are running the government together. The NDA first came to power in 2016 when Sarbananda Sonowal became the CM.

What were the issues in the elections?

This time BJP contested the elections keeping identity and development at the forefront. Sarma said that there will be no compromise with the land and identity of Assam. He claims that one and a half lakh bighas of land have been freed from encroachment and a target of five lakh bighas has been set.

What will the new government do?

Sarma says that this time the biggest focus will be on the youth. 10 lakh youth will be given money to start their own work. Besides, a promise has also been made to gradually increase the salary of tea garden workers to Rs 500.
