Kolkata: During the oath ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday, in a gesture of thanks to the people of the state for the historic victory in the election and taking the BJP to power for the first time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowed to the crowd for their support.

What happen before the oath ceremony?

On Saturday, West Bengal, which was once under the control of Left parties and TMC, has now been hoisted with saffron flag. For the first time, BJP has come to power in the state. During the Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in ceremony, after reaching the stage, PM Narendra Modi bowed down and saluted the people of Bengal in a very unique way. 

In the video, PM Modi can be seen kneeling down slowly and bowing begore the crowds, with his hands extended to the front. 

What is the reason of gesture?

PM Modi bowed his head in respect to the people of West Bengal, just as devotees bow to God in a temple. He once again brought back memories of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. When PM Modi first visited the Parliament House after winning the 2014 Lok Sabha elections with a landslide victory, he bowed in a similar manner to the Parliament House.

And at the time of inauguration of the new Parliament building, when a historical sceptre Sengol was installed near the seat of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, PM Modi had also saluted it in a unique way.
