Suvendu Adhikari's Net Worth: Bengal's New CM Owns Assets Worth Less Than Rs 1 Crore; No Car, No Gold (X)
Kolkata: On Friday, the name of the new Chief Minister of West Bengal has been announced. Suvendu Adhikari, who played a key role in the Bharatiya Janata Party's historic victory, has been elected Chief Minister of West Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari's name had been discussed for a long time, as he has been the BJP's most prominent face in West Bengal for a long time.
Following the historic victory in the recently held 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday announced Suvendu Adhikari as the next Chief Minister of the state.
During the legislature party meeting, senior BJP leader and former state president Dilip Ghosh proposed Suvendu Adhikari’s name and later Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who attended the meeting as the central observer, officially announced Adhikari as Bengal’s next CM.
"I announce the name of Suvendu Adhikari as elected Leader of the West Bengal BJP Legislative Party," said Amit Shah.
Suvendu Adhikari's hard work and efforts have played a significant role in strengthening the BJP in West Bengal, as he has a strong hold in the state politics. He has defeated Mamata Banerjee in two consecutive assembly elections.
According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Suvendu Adhikari's net worth is less than Rs 1 crore.
Adhikari, who holds a post-graduate degree, had disclosed his net worth in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission at the time of his nomination for the assembly elections. According to the information given in it, his total net worth is stated to be Rs 85.87 lakh, while he does not have any debt.
Before the elections, Suvendu Adhikari had informed that he had Rs 12,000 in cash and around Rs 7 lakh in his accounts including PNB, SBI and IDBI Bank. Apart from bank deposits, he has also invested lakhs of rupees in NSS, Postal Savings. He has deposited Rs 60,000 in the postal savings account opened in his name, Rs 2.60 lakh in Kisan Vikas Patra account, around Rs 5 lakh in NSC Certificate. Apart from this, he has invested around Rs 14,000 in shares and bonds.
Suvendu Adhikari has not just one, but several LIC policies. He has a deposit of Rs 6 lakh in one LIC policy, while the total investment in the other five policies is Rs 7 lakh. Apart from this, he has no other investments. He does not own a car or bike, nor does he own any gold or silver jewellery.
The BJP leader owns agricultural land worth Rs 9 lakh, while non-agricultural land plots worth around Rs 27 lakh are registered. He does not own any commercial buildings, but when it comes to residential property, Suvendu Adhikari owns three houses and flats. Their value was stated as Rs 24.75 lakh in his election affidavit.
Suvendu Adhikari, who was born on December 15, 1970, to Sisir Adhikari and Gayatri Adhikari in Karkuli, and located in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district, began his political career with the Congress party, then joined the Trinamool Congress in 1998, along with Mamata Banerjee.
However, internal differences within the TMC eventually led to Suvendu's exit and entry into the BJP
Suvendu Adhikari is unmarried and belongs to the Utkal Brahmin community.
