Delhi Police Salutes Its Brave Personnel, Announces Financial Assistance for Cops Injured on Duty (TIN)
New Delhi: When law and order challenges emerge on the streets of the national capital, crowds turn unruly, and police personnel stand firm on the frontlines risking their lives to control the situation, the responsibility of ensuring their safety and well-being also rests with the police department. Keeping this sentiment in mind, Delhi Police has announced financial assistance for its brave personnel injured while performing their duties. Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar has approved a proposal to provide financial assistance to police personnel injured during various law-and-order duties in 2026.
According to the arrangement issued by Delhi Police, personnel who sustain severe injuries while on duty will receive financial assistance of 25,000. Those suffering from other serious injuries will be provided 15,000. The amount will be disbursed from the Delhi Police Welfare Society Fund. Additionally, in cases where special circumstances warrant higher financial assistance, the concerned District Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) may submit a proposal for enhanced aid. This means that exceptional cases will be considered separately based on the needs and circumstances.
According to Delhi Police, more than 250 police personnel have been injured during various law-and-order arrangements in 2026. These personnel were deployed on different occasions to maintain peace, control crowds, and ensure compliance with the law in sensitive situations. Despite sustaining injuries while on duty, their dedication and commitment remain a matter of pride for the department. Recognising their contribution, the Police Commissioner has approved the financial assistance.
Delhi Police had formally introduced the 'Aahat Veer Samman Patra' initiative in 2023 to honour injured personnel and boost their morale. Under this initiative, police personnel injured while performing duties during riots, protests, apprehending criminals, and other challenging situations are felicitated. The objective is to recognise the courage and sacrifice of those who take risks to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens.
Delhi Police stated that the welfare of personnel injured while on duty and their families remains among the department's top priorities. The Police Welfare Unit is continuously undertaking initiatives to ensure that personnel in need receive timely financial assistance, support, and recognition. The newly announced financial assistance scheme is also being considered an important step in this direction.
Delhi Police Public Relations Officer and Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan stated that it is the department's responsibility to honour the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment of its personnel. The department stands firmly with those who do not retreat even in difficult circumstances while protecting others. The message is clear: the khaki uniform not only safeguards the law but also carries the responsibility of protecting and honouring its brave personnel.
